Writers Centre

The Mentone Public Library Writers Centre, proudly hosted by the Mentone Public Library, is a community home base where local authors can come together to workshop, write, read, edit, and support other writers. Like the cafe societies of old, the Writers Centre aims to build an artistic community of like-minded souls that can collaborate, inspire and nourish each other.

The Writers Room Sessions

Every weekday the library is open for writers to gather and write. Need a quiet place away from all distractions? Yearning for someone to have a look over your copy? Just want to make yourself accountable and carve out some time in your busy schedule to simply write? The Writers Room welcomes you, Monday to Friday, 10am to 12pm. Walk-ins welcome, baby-friendly sessions are on Fridays.

Open Mic

Each month we come together and read out five minutes of our latest writing. Get feedback, try out some ideas, or just enjoy the performance of it. Always on the fourth Saturday of the month, at the library, at 11am. A very supportive, nurturing space for writers of all levels. Get on our newsletter list by emailing mentonepubliclibrary@gmail.com to keep up to date on all our events.

Author For All Seasons

Once a month-ish, we invite a published author, usually local, to give us a talk on the process of writing, publishing, and the ins and outs of their latest novel. Check out our events page for details of the next one.

The Writer Meets The Reader

A book club where the author themselves is invited along to answer all your curly questions!

Workshops

The Mentone Public Library Writers Centre is always looking for specialists to put on workshops for our group. Think you can teach us something about writing screenplays, poetry, playwriting, fiction, comedy, journalism, songs or musicals? We’d love to hear from you!
