We’re a volunteer-run public library in the heart of Mentone village with a good range of books focussing on Australiana and local writers as well as many other genres. We may be 99 years old, but we are still changing and evolving with the needs of Mentone Village and surrounds.
Home of the Mentone Public Library Writers Centre, we open our doors every day from 10am to 12pm, Monday to Friday, for our daily Writers Room sessions where we encourage local writers to enjoy our quiet little book nook, get some writing done, and meet other writers in the area.
For updates check out our blog, our Facebook page, our Writers Centre Facebook, or email us to get yourself on our newsletter list.
We also hold many events including:
An Author For All Seasons, a monthly-ish event where we invite one of the top local authors to come and talk to us about writing, publishing and their latest book.
Where The Writer Meets The Reader, a book club with a difference — the author comes and talks to you! For only $5, you get a copy of the book and then the opportunity to ask the author all the curly questions you have about the characters and the plot.
Open Mic, come along with five minutes of writing (yours, mine or someone else’s) and enjoy sharing to a room full of like-minded souls.
Venue hire: Have a book club of your own that you’re looking for a venue? Are you a D&D Dungeon Master looking for a home? Our space is available for hire at a very reasonable rate, for one-offs or weekly hire. Email us on mentonepubliclibrary@gmail.com for more info.
You can also check out our blog, our Facebook page, our Writers Centre Facebook, or email us to get yourself on our newsletter list.
Finding us can be tricky! We are at the rear of the Community Information Centre. Look for the big Coles sign on Florence Street and you’ll see our flag and sandwich board.
